I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. Maternity leave is awesome, buuuuuuut it isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be! Don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing and I’m totally not complaining at all. I get to hang out with my littlest raisin and watch him grow day to day. I make a funny face or squawk like a chicken, he rewards me with a huge smile and glistening eyes. It almost makes the lack of sleep totally dissipate…almost! I get to catch up on household chores while wearing his teeny body against mine. We’re like this perfect human puzzle and I feel his little breaths, heartbeat and every single movement. The chores take twice as long and you have to be a little crafty. As you can see my new folding table is the oven as it’s the best height and space ratio while I wear the little guy. We go on outings, and that’s great, but more often than not I have a wee wailing bebe in the back seat and have to do an E.B.F.S. Emergency.BreastFeeding.Session. This happens on the daily that it doesn’t even phase me anymore!
My new musk is a nice mash up of spit up and sour breast milk scent protruding from my breast pads. My hair gel is also a nice little mixture of spit up and the little mans saliva. I kinda get why some moms chop off their hair….so not gonna do it though – long locks all the way! Leaving the house in the winter is always a marathon and of course has a lot to do with timing from one breastfeeding session to getting somewhere to feed and nourish his jelly belly again.
The mad dash from picking up his big bro from school to home and then making dinner one handed (and everything else – my texts are full of errors and auto corrects like “meet you in the cat!”) is pretty much all the cardio I need somedays! All in all, I love mat leave. I get to spend it with the littlest sidekick in this house hold and I wouldn’t change the spit up on my clothes and hair, or the EBFS’ for anything in the world!
