It’s hard to believe we are in the stages of sending our first born to school. He’s been attending a Montessori school for the last 2.5 years for “Pre-K” and we absolutely love it there. He’s forged many friendships, learned more than I could have ever imagined (right now there’s lots of talk about London, England and Japan in this household), and he’s so happy in that environment. But before all of that, I remember the first time I heard the word “catchment.” My first thought was, what the hell does that mean?! Little did I know it would consume my mind wondering how we’d get him into our school of choice based on spaces! It’s amazing the worries you go through as a parent – the list goes on and on, but of course education is always a biggie.
So now we’re in the throws of where does he go??? I grew up going to a public school, and Chris went to private. I can see the pros and cons of each. I obviously can only judge based on my experience, but I had a great time, great teachers and learned a lot. Although looking back and comparing the education and experience I hear with Chris’ side, it sounds like a lot of great things come out of private as well. The education, the advice, the one one one, the connections. And I mean don’t get me wrong, it all depends on the child too. It’s so hard trying to figure out what will work best for our little man. So now begins the waiting game on all the applications we have out. Will we get to decide, or will the spaces available in each school be dependent on where this little guy will go? Will we enjoy the experience? Who knows! Only when he finally starts going will we have that in mind, but I’m hoping yes as he’s been in an educational and play setting up till now! So where do you stand on the whole school front? Public or private?
