Sometimes I wonder how I have been so lucky. I have two pretty fabulous guys in my life who I love to bits and pieces. Getting married to Chris, and then having Mason a few years later is pretty much the greatest thing I could possibly have imagined in my wildest dreams.
When we had Mase, we blissfully came into these new found roles as mama and dada with honestly zero clue of what was to come. Ohhh the sleepless nights, the first cold, the thousands of diaper changes (what was up with the seeds in the poop!?), the first fever, the first fall, the first time Mason wailed and we just couldn’t figure out why! All new, all awesome…and all we knew was that we would do anything for Mase no matter what.
Since last year Mason and I started a little traditional Father’s Day gift. I can’t take creative credit on this one, shout out to those Pinterest boards! Last year was the first time we started this as Mason wasn’t even one yet…and I will keep it up even when the protests begin, because we all know we get to that age when things become “lame.” Ahhh teens.
So let’s get to this annual present. I take a photo with Mason holding individual wooden letters one at a time that eventually spell out DAD. Last year this was SUPER easy. I handed Mason the letter ‘D’, he sat on the grass, held it and looked around, and I snapped some shots. This year was a WHOLE different story. Wanna know what the hardest thing is to do ever!? Trying to getting a toddler that’s only interested in playing, to sit down nicely, hold a wooden letter, get them to smile and look at a camera all at the same time! Yaaa right! What was I thinking!? Regardless, I was DETERMINED to get these photos however I could. It took some creative play time outdoors to finally get the shots….2.5 hours later, and I came out with something usable!
When I saw these side by side, I was AMAZED at the difference a year really does make! Chris now knows to look forward to this little present (amongst others!) and he really looks forward to it.
Father’s day is ONE special day to celebrate how wonderful Chris is as a father. But honestly, the best part for me is day to day and seeing my guys together. What a pair these two are! The love Chris has for Mason is unexplainable, but clearly visible. He makes Mason laugh the hardest. He surprises him by setting up his hot wheel tracks with obstacle courses. He teaches him how to use his pretend tools. He helps him colour masterpieces with washable markers. He plasters stickers anywhere and everywhere with Mason. It’s truly amazing to be the spectator, and watch the father son bond happening before my eyes! I know that when Mason will need something now or in the future, he knows that his dada is there and will always make things better. Totally melts my heart!
I realize this Father’s Day post is a touch late, but between all the fun and commitments of the past week, I didn’t want to cram this all into one post … I felt it needed it’s own individual time to shine. Thank you Chris for being one wonderful father to our son Mason, and thank you dad for teaching me as a little girl growing that up I can do anything I set my mind to. Hope everyone out there had a wonderful weekend celebrating!
